Survival of the fittest..
those who have been at top of doing things go down/low temporarily..However they do their home work rigorously to regain and come out with a big bang..this is exactly what Nokia was doing..
Cell phone maker with highest market share have been undergoing tough times in recent past..Almost every one in this space was targetting nokia and bringing down their share..In the bottom end, the china made mobiles were eating the share..on the smart phone space apple was eating into the share..
Sliding market share, less price realisation from market, change in customer expectations, new models performance issues, delay in introducing new models,.nokia was into a vicious circle..Suddenly everything was looking very difficult for Nokia..We can understand the kind of pressure the management and staff would be undergoing..the erst while leader maintaining the top slot for almost two decades this is quite a nightmare situation..
However the company underwent lot of changes and reform measures to come out of the same..
What we are seeing now is the result of these changes..
Some of the changes what we experience now are because of few important changes like
a. complete new platform of devices in all price points,
b. right feature packed phones targeting appropriate competition in each space
c. New C series revamped N Series,E series and X series phones
d. New OVI store and new software development strategy plan
e. clear focus on current market reality - address touch phones, software issues on phones & website
f. Tie up with Microsoft to address high end smartphone market
g. Tie up with Yahoo to address Nokia Mail and related websites
h. clear communication strategy to keep worried investors calm
i. New product development strategies
A complete re haul of the top management enabled such radical changes which is practically very difficult for a more family model company like Nokia, which never had a foreigner heading the company in the history..
These home work is really paying off..yet certain things are not very clear..probably many of the above will be clear by end of 2011 or beginning of 2012..
Thumbs up to Nokia..Its great inspiration to many companies and individuals..
