iPhone5S and iOS - Its the Integration !!

from the beginning of launch of iphone, i have been asking myself, what would be special about the phone, which still keeps the top spot of smartphones , which has customers queuing up on the launch date, which has made speculation about the new devices a norm in web, which has made all competitors to target upon and still retaining the top position!! what is that feature which is making this phone the next target phone of many people across the world!!

These questions keep coming to my mind as i was trying to explore the iphone and iOS. I used to borrow  iphone of friends and relatives to make a call, browse internet to try and understand the phone interface. But somehow i did not get the "feel" of the phone during such interactions.

The desire to own a iphone was also present deep inside me , though the price and availability kept myself  away. This desire deep inside me, found a opportunity to upgrade my phone. Hence I motivated myself to buy a iphone 5s ( though i was pushed/motivated by others to go for it- finally iPaid the hefty price !!).

Before i started using it, i was also having the natural feel that, as everyone is saying good about this phone, wanted to understand whether people are getting carried by the Apple Hardware finesse, Steve Jobs Charisma, No. of Apps in Appstore etc or does it have all ingredients to make me impressed. So i wanted to be very critical in analyzing my iphone 5s.

Now its almost 7 months of usage of my iphone. Started admiring the phone every day with a pinch of salt though.

What are the experiences with this phone , made me admire it.

a. Camera and Video Capabilities
b. Apps by Apple
c. Quality of Thirdparty Apps
d. Integration of Apps with iOS
e.Battery
f. Charging Cable

The things that make me feel the phone is inflexible are

a. need of iTunes for music transfer
b. exclusive airdrop feature for file transfer

Camera and Video Capabilities

I would say this iteration of Iphone is best in terms of the photo and video capabilities. The enhancements of these features are by leaps and bounds compared to previous versions. The isight camera as Apple has christened the camera is excellent in capturing photos. The photos capture good details and deep colors when taken in good light conditions. This includes natural light and also artificial lighting conditions.

In low light conditions, the true tone flash of the phone, makes the photos excellent. Excellent means the photo output is almost synonymous to the real life.Over all the photos look stunning in proper light conditions and superb with flash.

These excellent photo memories get auto uploaded through wifi to your iCloud or to your Google+ account. It is very convenient to share these photos once they are uploaded.

Also this entire camera & flash is accomodated within the 7.6mm thickness of the phone. There is no protruding nature of the camera signifying the hardware finesse of the phone.

When it comes to video, the quality is excellent, except for the audio which is mono recording.

The highlight feature is the slow motion video which is technically recording 720P @ 120fps which is a real nice touch. This feature is first introduced in the Apple iphone 5S.

I used this feature to capture the videos of my little son & my little niece. both are toddlers and its very exciting to capture their movements in slow motion. This is a super like feature for me. WIll cherish these videos forever. The youtube app immediately uploads these videos to the youtube website and can be easily shared to your loved ones.

Apps by Apple

Apple introduced new applications along with the iphone 5S & 5C like keynote, numbers, imovie, iphoto etc. These are feature rich high end applications which are used in image, video & documents processing.

These applications are powerful ones, meaning have very deep processing abilities and all the options are well thought off with proper help functions. In Apple terms these are applications are above Industry Standard.

iMovie app helped me create very unique emotional videos of my little ones in the family. The application slized the original video & i was able to get the perfect emotions in my new video. I would say only the phone's screen size is a limitation for this app.

Thirdparty Apps

Apple to its forte has excellent, well researched applications made by third party developers. Truly these apps further enhances ones productivity and ability to go beyond the extra mile in your working.

Also there are certain restrictions in iOS ( as per our working) like groups cannot be made in phonebook and so group sms cannot be sent.

Integration of Apps & iOS7

I have used extensively the Android phones with all apps which include areas like photo, video processing, some productivity apps, note taking, reminders, calender apps. I used to get a feeling that all these apps are extremely innovative & good ones individually. However when it comes to integration with the OS , i always felt there is something more is needed.

This wish was truly achieved by the iOS. The integration of these apps with the OS is something truly a phenomenal work ie very intuitive by Apple. It starts with calendar app, notes app, reminders app, photo attachment in mail app ( it actually asks you to reduce or maintain the same size of the photo),the payment app of the app store.

In addition to my favorite features, there are all favorite features like touch id,very clear & sharp display with superb touch features, the premium quality built, the music app and excellent ear phones,

Battery

The Battery of the 5S is very good. It extends to a complete day( 16-17hrs) with only phone calls(about 3hrs). with 2G on it comes to about 13-14hrs and with 3G on 9-10hrs.The more you use the touch screen the faster the battery discharges. Also when the screen is used with maximum brightness, drains the battery faster. The battery also charges fast.

Lighting Cable

This is how Apple calls it the Charging/Data Cable. This is again the new cable introduced along with iPhone 5. The cable is similar to the micro usb but it is very user friendly. that is the cable can be put in the mobile in any manner without any bias.

I personally feel with all finest hardware, Great Apps and iOS , its the integration of these into the iPhone5S makes it a best phone in the market.

Digital Assistants & Digital Footprint?

Mobile Phones, Tabs,Tablet PCs,Laptops,PCs, Networked Television or Smart TVs all combined with cloud storage & accessibility are becoming as one's Digital Assistant.

They remember what you were doing and then help you to continue with the same work on the move and complete the same at your convenience.

They have made us to be ourselves and giving us the control to do things at our will.As normally said in corporate world, the effectiveness of a business leader is enhanced by the effectiveness of the executive assistant, these gadgets are everyone's assistant to perform more, perform better and perform at will.

These devices are in constant interaction with the internet. The internet is second world for many of us. Like our human face, we also knowingly or unknowingly upkeep a digital face in the internet for ourselves.

People remember, identify, recognize, get familiarized based on one's outlook in these social network sites.

Like face is index of mind, these sites & with the gadgets have become or becoming one's digital identity in today's world.

Digital Assistants and Digital Identity? ..What else do we get from this communication technology ?

it is with these technology that makes people today come together,be more efficient and be more interdependent. How?

Communication have also changed over years from sign language to speech language to letters/fax/telegrams to telephones to paging to internet to mobile to email to social networks.

The technology that helped communication is now getting integrated. that is all these communication was happening with different technology devices but today everything is combined into one device.

Further to it, now the devices are getting shaped up by the time of usage. Like our dress code for various occasions. The person remains the same, however the outlook changes based on the place & occasion (time) they are into.

Similarly the content that a person uses or interacts remain the same but the device through which it is done is different based on the place & time.

The technology also has evolved to remember the person's digital footprint. Every one's action in internet is been able to be collated & retrievable at any moment.

For people who believe in god and think god knows everything, everything what we do & think, today this technology has the capability to do the same.

this technology is like it is present everywhere or omnipresent like god. today it is there in some forms but has the potential to be part of all devices to become omnipresent.

This omnipresent technology will also be a guidance to follow our basic principles of life like integrity, honesty which otherwise has started to get diluted in many of our day to day activities.

These devices are today's version of digital assistants & digital footprint. the digital assistants will grow & get integrated in all the devices like our cars, washing machines even ourselves getting a chip implanted in our body.

As we evolved over years, this technology also is evolving and helping us to overcome the new challenges that we face because of population increase, scarce resources etc.

For example in today's scenario, when we are in high demand for petrol and diesel, with the help of this technology , we are able to see & feel certain products which we wanted to know about, without physically going out. The experience is almost like we are physically there and with which we are able to take a decision.

This technology has also made us more efficient in many of our activities that has impact on the environment.

So from a state of independent working, communication has always made us to be more interdependent which makes us to move into a the next higher level of existence in this world.

The present technology in today's scenario is also serving this purpose and will evolve further to continue to do the same.

Made for each other!!!

Watch the Videos which show the capabilities of both these devices.

Sony's value proposition with the Phablet is attractive and is for sure to raise the bar for this segment. The device is more user friendly with its little companion Mini Bluetooth Headset. This itself acts like a phone receiver and the design of this take this device to next level.

We can see the Hardware perfection of Sony in these devices and is for sure to lure more customers towards them.

Google Now in Iphone & Ipad !!!!

Reproducing a nice article in Yahoo news by  MICHAEL LIEDTKE which i came across

Requesting Additional View Points about Google Now from   +Muthuraj Krishnasamy

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Siri may be feeling a little job insecurity. The sometimes droll assistant that answers questions and helps people manage their lives on Apple's iPhone and iPad is facing competition from an up-and-coming rival made by Google.
The duel began Monday with the release of a free iPhone and iPad app that features Google Now, a technology that performs many of the same functions as Siri.
It's the first time that Google Now has been available on smartphones and tablet computers that aren't running on the latest version of Google's Android software. The technology, which debuted nine months ago, is being included in an upgrade to Google's search application for iOS, the Apple Inc. software that powers the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. It's up to each user to decide whether to activate Google Now within the redesigned Google Search app, which is available through Apple's app store.
Siri tried to dismiss the competitive threat. When asked for an opinion about Google Now, Siri responded: "If it's all the same to you, I'd rather Google later."
Mike Allton, a St. Charles, Mo., resident who has owned an iPhone for four years, could hardly wait to check out Google Now, even if Siri might interpret it as a betrayal.
Siri "is looking a little green with envy," Allton, 36, said with a laugh after he installed Google's new app. "I love Apple products, but I like to see the competition because it probably will lead to even more improvements. I believe this technology is going to be even more deeply ingrained in our lives a few years from now."
Other iPhone users — even those who have grown fond of Siri — welcomed Google Now's arrival to iOS in mostly enthusiastic and sometimes amusing remarks posted on Twitter and Google Plus. One person joked that Google Now is so helpful that the technology prompted him to wash his hands after using the bathroom. The biggest gripe was about the possibility of Google Now's location-tracking features draining a device's battery more quickly.
Google Now's invasion of Siri's turf marks Google Inc.'s latest attempt to lure iPhone and iPad users away from a service that Apple built into its own devices.
Google quickly won over millions of iPhone users in December when it released a mapping application to replace the navigation system that Apple dumped when it redesigned iOS last fall. Apple's maps application proved to be inferior to Google's ousted service. The app's bugs and glitches made Apple the butt of jokes and fueled demand for Google to develop a new option.
Apple has been losing to Google on other fronts in a rapidly growing mobile computing market, an arena that was revolutionized with the iPhone's release in 2007. Smartphones and tablet computers running Google's free Android software have been steadily expanding their market share in recent years, partly because they tend to be less expensive than the iPhone and iPad. In 2012, Android devices held about 69 percent of the smartphone market while iOS had about 19 percent, according to the research firm IDC.
Android's success has been particularly galling for Apple because its late CEO, Steve Jobs, believed Google stole many of its ideas for the software from the iPhone. That led to a series of court battles over allegations of patent infringement, including a high-profile trial last year that culminated in Apple winning hundreds of millions in damages from Samsung Electronics, the top seller of Android phones. That dispute is still embroiled in appeals.
The rise of Android also is squeezing Apple's profit margins and has contributed to a nearly 40 percent drop in the company's stock price since it peaked at $705.07 last September around the time that the iPhone 5 came out.
Android's popularity is good news for Google because the company's services are built into most versions of the operating system. That brings more traffic to Google services, creating more opportunities for the company to sell ads — the main source of Google's revenue.
Siri is billed by Apple as an "intelligent feature." Since the technology's release in October 2011, Apple has made it a centerpiece of some marketing campaigns that depict Siri and its automated female voice as an endearing and occasionally even pithy companion.
Google believes its Siri counterpart is smarter because Google Now is designed to learn about a user's preferences and then provide helpful information before it's even asked to do so. The technology draws upon information that Google gleans from search requests other interactions with the company's other services. Knowing a person's location also helps Google Now serve up helpful information without being asked.
"This concept of predicting your needs and showing you them at the right time is unique to Google Now," said Baris Gultekin, Google Now's director of product management. "We want computers to do the hard work so our users can focus on what matters to them so they can get on with their lives."
If the technology is working right, Google Now is supposed to do things like automatically tell people what the local weather is like when they wake up to help decide what to wear and provide a report on traffic conditions for the commute to work. During the day, Google Now might provide an update on the score of a user's favorite sports team or a stock quote of a company in a user's investment portfolio. On a Friday evening, Google Now might offer suggestions for movies to see or other weekend events tailored to a user's interests. For international travelers, Google Now might provide currency conversion rates, language translations of common phrases and the time back home.
Most of this automatic information is provided in summaries that Google calls "cards." Like Siri, Google Now also is equipped with voice technology that allows it to respond to questions and interact with users, though it hasn't shown the wit that delights some of Siri's users.
The Google Now app for iOS isn't as comprehensive as the Android app, which only works on devices running on the latest version of Android — known as "Jelly Bean." Some of the Android features missing from Google Now's iOS app include cards for showing airline boarding passes and movie tickets bought though online vendor Fandango. Both of those options are available on the iOS through Apple's built-in Passbook feature that's designed to be a digital wallet.
Google Now's expansion on to the iOS underscores Google's ambitions for the service. The company, which is based in Mountain View, Calif., views it as a pivotal tool in its effort to peer deeper into its users' brains. In doing so, Google believes it will be able to provide more useful services and also show more relevant ads. For Google Now to become more intuitive, it needs to widen its availability.
"The more you use Google Now, we will have a better chance of understanding what your needs are and providing you with the right information," Gultekin said. "It's a virtuous cycle."
Shawn Jacob, a student at the University of North Texas, activated Google Now on his iPhone and was startled by how much the service already knew about him when he logged in for the first time. "I was blown away," Jacob, 21, said. "It made me wonder if I really want Google to know this much about me. It's like Google wants to take over the world."
Gultekin declined to discuss whether there are plans to make Google Now apps for mobile devices running on Microsoft's Windows system. He also refused to comment on speculation circulating in technology blogs that a Web version of Google Now will be offered as a replacement for iGoogle, a tool that allows people to encircle the Google search engine with a variety of services suited to their tastes. IGoogle is scheduled to close in November.
