How Bright is the TORCH 9810 from Blackberry

I had the experience of using the blackberry torch 9810 recently..Going from the specifications point Blackberry has upgraded all the parameters in tune to the current benchmark levels of the high end smartphone market..

To give an overview of the specs of the BB Torch it houses a 1.2 Ghz Processor,3.2inch capacitive touch screen,on screen & physical qwerty keyboard, 8GB in house memory & 32GB expandable memory slot, 5MP camera & 720p HD video recording capability,1270mAh Battery..

With respect to the hardware features BB has increased its bar to the expectation of the consumer..However the front facing camera is not given by BB..Do not know if there is any reason for not giving it..

Also away from the typical BB's business user features approach, the torch incorporates more multimedia features too in terms of music & video play back, implementation of social networking etc..These form the part of the BB OS & which we will discuss now..

BB OS 7

From the 2 to 3 days of working with this phone, for a typical BB user, OS 7 is a good refinement to the earlier OS..

a. Having used the previous OS phones & this new one, i could make out certain features added to give better user interface with a touch screen compared to the earlier OS interface..

b. The multi-tasking is good in OS7 which is really useful & nicely implemented..

c.Social networks integration is good..you can upload photos,videos immediately after capturing to social networks, add comments & update status easily, instant alerts on updates & good phone book integration..

d.The Internet explorer or the browser is better..fast rendering of pages compared to previous OS versions..pinch zoom option, automatic text re flow to accomodate mobile screen size etc are available..

e. The Apps store- minimum but all essential ones are available for free as well paid..

Now the other side

a. Still BB OS is a still complicated one for a normal user.. the settings are very tough to change, the menus options are still the same like the previous versions..only minimal up-gradations are done in the new 7 OS..

b. The look & feel of the OS is still the grim,tough & insipid..

c. When we compare to Android & Apple to some extent Symbian, there is no freshness & feel good factor in the OS experience..Many may choose BB for its email & messenger..but other than these two, there is no much enhancement in the OS point of view..

d. The touch part of the phone is above average but not the best..Having used the iphone,Android,Nokia,Windows touch phones,the BB touch is no way near..but definitely better that BB's previous touch based phones..

Over all there are many changes brought in by the BB OS 7 but still the OS is slow & does not give a brisk feeling while operating..

The BB Torch 9810 is packaged with some of the unique BB's features like the e-mail & BBM features..Other than this, it performs all other functions in its own way.. but not in an easy to use, intuitive user friendly fashion..

If email is the prime most important feature for you, think of the options of iphone4/Android phones like samsung galaxy s2, because these phones at a similar price point to BB 9810 offers you better intuitive user experience, better touch features, better multimedia experience, also the email features with the Exchange server option in built..with normal data plan you can operate these phones..however for a BB, you need a enterprise version to access all internet features, which is very costly affair..

only the real time BBM feature is not available in these phones..however there are many other free ways to communicate to your loved ones..
